5 Habits of Highly Successful eCommerce Entrepreneurs

If you haven’t read The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey, it’s a great read that comes highly recommended. Here, we want to take things a step further by sharing with you five common habits shared by successful ecommerce entrepreneurs. In fact, incorporating some of these habits into your life could help you enjoy a level of success you never imagined.

#1 – They Keep a Consistent Schedule

If there’s one thing that almost every successful ecommerce entrepreneur has in common, it’s their dedication to keeping a consistent schedule. They get up at the same time, go to work at the same time, eat lunch at the same time, and go to bed at the same time every single day of the week – even on weekends! It’s a huge productivity boost and many find the sense of routine comforting.

#2 – They Delegate a Lot

Entrepreneurs will often do everything – and we mean everything – by themselves because they fear no one else will do it correctly or because they want to save money. Unfortunately, this can backfire and cause you to make mistakes or simply burn out. If it’s bad enough, your business could fail. Successful ecommerce entrepreneurs know when to delegate tasks like fielding telephone calls or even order fulfillment, and they aren’t afraid to do it.

#3 – They Start the Day by Identifying their Goals

Highly successful entrepreneurs start their day by identifying anywhere from one to three major goals for that day. It’s a great way to stay focused on something that matters in the incredibly fast-paced world of ecommerce, and it also gives you a starting point for creating your daily plan.

#4 – They Create Lists (Lots and Lots of Lists)

Lists are your best friend as an ecommerce entrepreneur. Grab yourself a notebook (yes – an entire notebook) and a pen and start keeping lists. Make your front page an index page so you can find your various lists later, and start listing things like business ideas, goals, wishes, dreams, and even intentions. Reflect on this notebook at least once a week, and keep it handy at all times so you can add to it whenever necessary.

#4 – They Take Care of Themselves

Successful people put a lot of focus on self-care, and for good reason. If they let their health decline, they spend more time dealing with illness than their businesses, and this can be detrimental. Take at least half an hour out of every day to read a book, meditate – whatever keeps you happy, focused, and grounded. Take up a hobby and spend some time working on that each day. It’s hard to run a business when you aren’t taking care of yourself.

#5 – They Are Picky about Employees and Partners

If you’re going to hire employees (even outsourced employees!) make sure you’re surrounding yourself with the best and most skilled team possible. When you can worry less about your employees’ and fulfillment partner’s abilities, you can focus more on what really matters. Things like coming up with a marketing plan, deciding what you want your company logo to look like, and coming up with a strategy for growth should be your main focal points – not running out of warehouse space.

As you can see, many of the biggest and most successful ecommerce entrepreneurs of them all share a few relatively simple habits that you can incorporate into your life starting right now. Introduce them one at a time and commit to at least a week to discover the difference each of these habits can make.
